June 17, 2009 (Parker, CO) – Parker Adventist Hospital officials announced today plans for a two-year, campus expansion and renovation project. The hospital received $76 million in financing from its sponsor, Adventist Health Systems. The two-phase project is projected to be completed by mid-2011.
“Since opening five years ago, the number of patients we care for has doubled. We expect that growth to continue as the south Denver metropolitan area continues to grow,” says Parker Adventist Hospital CEO, Terry Forde. “We also have added several specialty areas, including spine surgery, neurosurgery and a sleep center that require us to add space.”
Local construction company, G.E. Johnson, is the general contractor for the project. The first phase which is currently underway will include:
- Five additional operating rooms and additional support space including:
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
- Pre-Operating area
- Sterile processing department
- Ten additional OB patient rooms
- Hospital infrastructure expansion that includes expanding the current physical plant
The second phase will include:
- A three-story inpatient wing that is currently in the planning process. The building will house 30 new patient rooms, including a new intensive care unit.
- Thirty additional beds will be shelled but not finished to meet future need.
- The building also will include expanded laboratory services and materials management space, a conference center, cafeteria/kitchen expansion and additional parking.
When completed, the project is expected to bring more than 100 new jobs to the hospital.
Opening five years ago as a $108 million, 56-bed facility, Parker Hospital grew to 100 beds after only two years. This newest expansion will give the hospital the ability to eventually increase to a 160-bed facility.
Additional growth on the hospital campus includes:
- A second medical office building on the Parker Hospital campus broke ground November 2008 and is expected to open August 2009. DASCO Companies is the developer and owner of the four-story, 80,000 square foot Parker Professional Building II.
- Parker Hospital’s front entry and campus parking was renovated last December to create easier access to the campus and add parking for patients, guests, physicians and associates.
As a faith-based, non-profit organization, Parker Adventist Hospital is committed to improving the health of the people in our communities. Parker Hospital is part of Centura Health, Colorado’s largest healthcare provider, and has provided more than $35 million in community benefit since opening in 2004.
